There are 7 categories of membership in the NJSACOP

1. Active Members: Police Chiefs of municipal or county police agencies, or parallel sworn law enforcement executive of any state or federal law enforcement agency located within New Jersey.       County Recommendation Required
    
2. Associate Members: Other chief executives of any other law enforcement organization which by nature of its activity, or by reason of his/her training and experience in law enforcement.     County Recommendation Required 
    
3. Life Members: Active and Retired Members with 20 years continued membership in good standing.     
    
4. Retired Members: Any Active member who has retired on pension
    
5. Corporate Members: Persons representing firms having a valid interest in the advancement of the police profession.  County Recommendation Required 
    
6. Private Security Members: Security practitioners who are responsible, in whole or in part, for the security function of a business or other institution.          County Recommendation Required 
    
7. Provisional Members: "Acting", "Interim" or "Provisional" Police Chiefs of municipal or county police agencies, or parallel sworn law enforcement executive of any state or federal law enforcement agency located within New Jersey, who are awaiting permanent appointment.     County Recommendation Required
