Certificate in Executive Development in Policing

The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police in partnership with Stockton University Center for Public Safety & Security is excited to offer a “Certificate in Executive Development in Policing.” This Certificate is available to attendees of the NJSACOP Police Executive Institute, Foundation for Executive Leadership, and Contemporary Issues in Police Administration courses, in addition to a “Capstone” seminar from the Stockton University Center for Public Safety & Security.  Click here for the PROGRAM BROCHURE.

The capstone project requires candidates to focus on identifying a real-world public safety problem or ineffective/inefficient process and developing a plan to change or improve it. The outcome of this capstone module is to have the capstone projects introduced to public safety leaders for their consideration and implementation as a means to improve public safety for the citizens of New Jersey and our neighbors.

The first three modules of the NJSACOP Certificate in Executive Development in Policing program focus on three levels of analysis: self, group/team, and organization. The Capstone Project harnesses the core concepts of these first three modules to engage candidates in a capstone project focused on improving the overall public safety domain. This capstone project requires candidates to focus on identifying a real-world public safety problem or ineffective/inefficient process and developing a plan to change or improve it. This capstone course provides engagement in a practitioner-centered learning experience that serves as a summative exemplar of each professional’s executive development.

Candidates will have latitude over their group capstone project under the direction of the module facilitator, who will guide candidates towards their goal. The final deliverable for this module will consist of a multi-page compendium, inclusive of appendices. Based upon the group capstone project, each final deliverable will look different, but contain various components that will be common to the module’s goals. Candidates who successfully complete the capstone module will demonstrate their ability to:

  • identify a gap or problem in public safety
  • demonstrate proficiency as an independent learner and critical thinker
  • utilize research and analysis techniques to explain and resolve gaps or problems
  • design solutions utilizing theory, research, and practitioner-knowledge
  • and present an ethically responsible final project to stimulate conversation and action
Upon successful completion of the following four programs, the attendees will receive a Certificate in Executive Development in Policing from Stockton University Center for Public Safety & Securityand the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police.
