Privately Made Firearms


COURSE OVERVIEW
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, in conjunction with NJSACOP, is pleased to  offer this in-person Privately Made Firearms course. ATF will identify what are commonly referred to as “Ghost Guns,” machinegun conversion devices, and homemade silencers, and will also address the following topics:
•  Trends and Resources
•  Legal Issues and Solutions
•  Identifying Best Practices and Investigative Techniques

This course is relevant for those currently or most likely to be involved with these types of  investigations.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Joseph Sente is currently the Group Supervisor (GS) of Newark Group V (CGET) and has served in this  capacity since June 2024. GS Sente began his ATF career in 2013 as a Special Agent in the Newark  Field Division, Camden, NJ Field Office. In 2016, GS Sente transferred to Newark Group II where he  was the co-case agent and case agent on multiple federal T-III investigations of violent Drug Trafficking Organizations resulting in the arrest of dozens of violent criminals. In September of  2019 GS Sente was selected to join the ATF Executive Protection Office in Washington, DC where he  provided protective services to the Director of ATF. In November of 2021 GS Sente was selected to serve as a Firearms Instructor at the ATF National Academy.

In April of 2022 GS Sente was selected as the firearms instructor coordinator (FIC) and Privately  Made Firearms (PMF) instructor for the Newark Field Division. In August of 2022 and continuing  through February of 2024 GS Sente began several acting supervisor assignments that included Acting Resident Agent in Charge (ARAC) Camden Field Office, ARAC Tren- ton Field Office and Acting GS Newark Group I. During this time GS Sente led several successful firearms trafficking and violent crime investigations resulting in multiple federal arrests while also filling the role as Division FIC. IN February 2024 GS Sente was selected as the Supervisor of Newark Group I where he led a successful federal T-III investigation under the Jersey City Violent Crime Initiative (VCI)  resulting in the arrest of twenty-five (25) individuals as well as a successful investigation under the Newark VCI resulting in the arrest of ten (10) violent individuals. IN June of 2024 GS  Sente was selected to stand up the newly created Newark V (CGET).

Prior to ATF GS Sente served as a Police Officer/Detective with the Belleville, NJ Police Department from June 2005 to July 2013 and instructor at the Essex County Police Academy. GS Sente is a U.S. Army veteran where he served as an Infantry Squad Leader with the 10th Mountain Division including a one (1) year combat deployment to Afghanistan.
